However, there are other areas of contact; this project focuses on the region between Guatemala and Mexico. I start from the theoretical basis that was generated in what is considered the borderland paradigm (USA-Mexico) to analyse whether the same concepts can be applied to the border region that this research considers. The ideas of a third space (Soja), borderland (Anzaldúa) and hybrid cultures (Canclini) serve as a starting point for the analysis. The area between Mexico and Guatemala can be considered a triple frontier, where the duality of the border as a place of desire and terror is disrupted. Literary production in the region plays an important role in raising awareness of the voices of the border, and independent and cartonera publishing houses provide the ideal channel to connect literary production from both sides. However, it is necessary to ask how the border and its dynamics are represented in their cultural products. This work highlights the importance of discussing the border and its literature from an inter-American perspective.

Author: Atahualpa García Ibarra is a graduate in Hispanic Literature from the University of Guadalajara.
